Navy Blue Go-To

I found this vintage dress at a local shop almost two years ago, and got it for $30 or so.  It needed some fixing up (which I am absolutely unqualified to attempt), so my mom took it and stitched up a few holes and gave it some fresh buttons.  It's one of my favorites for fall and spring, since it's a heavy fabric but comfortable, plus it can be worn with black or gray or brown or... anything else!

I wasn't sure how to date this; I was thinking 1940's since practicality was high and it has military style details, along with pockets (!!!).  But the shirtwaist dress style was popular in the '50s, too.  So I looked up the brand -- Mynette -- and while I couldn't find anything specifically about the brand's history, there were a ton of ads ranging from the 1930s-1960s.  I think I may have even found this particular dress, or a very similar style, in an ad from 1956.
Their main interest seemed to be making half-sizes to fit all women, hence the tagline, "So wise about your size."

Have any favorite vintage go-to outfits?  Know anything about the Mynette brand, or do you have a favorite vintage brand for quality and comfort?  Tells us all about it in the comments!

  1. Oh my gosh, I can't decide what I love more: your show-stoppingly awesome hair or your timelessly beautiful and very becoming dress. Equal adoration going out to both! You're a vision of stylish loveliness, dear gal!
