Prohibition Night at the Museum

A week ago, Mr. Williams and I put on our suspenders and stockings—respectively—and headed to the Crime and Punishment Museum in Washington, D.C.  It’s been 80 years since prohibition, and they were celebrating with a 1920s themed tour experience, including a whiskey tasting.
Much like the bootleggers and flappers of the ‘20s, we accept any invitation to dress up and drink.  (More on the drinking later...)

We started the tour and found ourselves in the Medieval crime section (annnd just  keep moving past the torture instruments, etc…) and then in the Western section, with outlaw posters and the like.
We followed the path to see the exhibit about folks like John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, and Machine Gun Kelley.  There was a stand for receiving temporary ‘prison tattoos’ (I made sure to pick one that wouldn’t clash with my hat, y’know, naturally…)

Findings from Bonnie and Clyde's travels, such as a poem she wrote
on his typewriter while on the run.

The car from the movie Bonnie & Clyde.

There was a station for booking yourself into jail (I got DUI, go figure; Mr. Williams got larceny).  Another booth set up ahead showed how to pull fingerprints from objects.

Dress from Target, modified with fringe by my mom; 'jade' necklace from Forever 21; ballet slippers from Payless.

The line for the whiskey tasting was absurd, so we organized our priorities and decided to keep moving through the rest of the exhibit.  Mr. Williams had a chance to autopsy some pigs (not really my thing, unfortunately), and then we were kicked back out into the 21st century.  The present is, I'm afraid, a world of bad drivers and sub-par burritos.  I'm looking for any chance to slip back into the 1920s... as long as I'm dressed for the part.

  1. Wow! This looks SO cool; I'm definitely going to go to this museum if I'm ever in the area - I'll be a 20s party all on my own ;) The two of you seem to have really good luck finding cool vintage stuff like this!

    Love,
